Government College Balakot was established in 1975 as Degree College in a single academic block. Professor Rasheed Ahmad was the pioneer Principal of this college. The chronology of GC Balakot indicates that 25 Principals have administerd it and sitting Principal, Prof. Syed Abdul Wajid falls at S.No 26 on Honour Board for Principals. Since its birth in 1975, this college has passed through various developmental phases of education. Initially Intermediate level classes were initiated in Science and Humanities. With the passage of time degree level classes of B.A/B.Sc were inducted.
Conventional degree level educational system of B.A/B.Sc has been transformed into the International level BS (Bachelor of Studies) Semester system since 2017, strictly in accordance with National Education Policy to bring our students at par globally. BS system at GC Balakot is imparting affordable and accessible, university level quality education to the people of Balakot and its surrounding areas at their door steps. Currently 04 BS departments in the subjects of Physics, Zoology, Islamic Studies and Urdu are successfully functional at this college which have almost reached to maturity i.e 7th Semester of 1st batch is at the zenith of BS System at this college.
GC Balakot is the second largest Boys’ college in Mansehra JMC with respect to students’ enrollment, successful BS system, elegant landscape and wideness of space.
GC Balakot has a unique history of its own as it is situated at the left bank of Kunhar down the stream between beautiful mountains at Hassa Town of Kunhar valley. Balakot is the gate way to Kaghan and Naran Valleys leading to Baltistan on the straight forward side and to Kashmir and Kohistan on peripheral sides. This region has a significant strategic and touristic importance.
Sitting Principal of this college, Prof. Syed Abdul Wajid intends to strengthen and extend BS program by launching BS in two more subjects one of Science i.e Chemistry and one of Humanities i.e English very soon. The sitting Principal has brought drastic reforms in academics and developmental works of this college in collaboration with faculty as the zealous team. Glimpses of few reforms are:
1. Launching of College’s own Wall Calendar for the year 2021 whish is the first precedent in history of public sector colleges of KPK.
2. Printing of College’s own Office Files and BS files.
3. Printing of Office Letter Pads.
4. Creation of College Logo in relevance to Kunhar valley and uniqueness of GC Balakot.
5. Installation of a large sized (20’x10′) college’s own sign board confronting Kaghan Road, bearing name, logo, vision statement and college profile. Main purpose of Sign Board is to affix panaflexes for displaying relevant and prominent activities/events to be periodically organized at the college campus.
6. Preparation of College flag through screen printing.
7. Installation of high rising flag poles in couplets for hoisting national and college flags.
8. Strengthening of college security system by upgrading CCCam system.
9. Launching of college’s official website www.gcbalakot.edu.pk which will be the icon of prestige of this college.
10.Launching of College’s official News Letter which will present the diverse nature of activities regularly organized at the college campus and it will serve as the banner of its honour.
11. Launching of Saif ul Malook the college magazine for 2021 which will be the state of art.
